I read an article from a Mother on another website, asking for help. Her son had been diagnosed with Dyspraxia at 3 years old. She was desperate for help, her son was now 8 years old and she had recieved no support from anyone. This Mother was now thinking of putting her child in a special needs school. No one had replied to her plight since 2006. Where is that Mum now and what has happened to her son?
A Mum has replyed and hoped she was more understanding towards her son ater reading my story. I portrayed the Mum in my book with extreme emotions and frustrations. Mothers (including myself) are very caring and understanding.
Another comment was “Why was the point of having a helpline if no-one replied” I am having almost 50 + comments a day on wordpress which allows me to approve or dissaprove. Only one out of these is genuine. If you have comments and need an answer could you e-mail me directly at hazelcarr@btinternet.com and I will reply ASAP. If you look at the other parts of this website you will see that I have dont seem to have much correspondance but I actually have had e-mails from Bali, Saudi Arabia, America, New Zealand, Canada, Europe and England. I was asked for advice from a Grandma who said her Grandson was doing amazing but she was stuck on one exercise. I asked if she could come to the school and I would help. She was afraid her bus route from Houston, Texas didn’t go past our school.
That is why I started this helpline.
hi
I just read the ‘my book’ section and had to fight back the tears. You could be telling the tale of my son, except I hope we are more understanding. He is just starting on the procedure for a proper assessment. But thank you, its made me realise a little what its like for him.
Hi Hazel,
Suppose just want to say its nice to see some practical information and help for parents and teachers on Dyspraxia. I am a mother of two children started to study special needs assistant course in Dublin in October 97. Since starting my course it was evident my daughter 11 years old has been very unhappy at school and as a result has been through assessments to discover the cause of her difficulties and unhappiness. ~The learning I have gone through however led me to conclude that my daughter is affected by Dyspraxia, Dyslexia and also maybe Aspergers Syndrome. These have to be confirmed by the assessments that have taken place but not long ago I said to the psychologist all this stuff Im learning about I can see my daughter in. And so she said well yes I am looking into both dyspraxia and AS. Anyway I just wanted to say thanks this is a nice website to have as a tool or guide to use for help. I am at the moment just waiting for the conclusions of my daughters tests and hoping that she will get the help she needs.
Hi there,
I have a son, Anthony, who is 21 later this month and who was diagnosed with Dyspraxia when he was 4.
I have decided to put all the major expriences and “epiphanies” into a Blog.
http://DealingwithDyspraxia.blogspot.com
I’m keen to find out if other parents would be interested in stories of hope .. and what to prepare for,
So I’d appreciate it if you would publish this letter on your website and see if you can reach people who might be interested in learning lessons from my family’s “on-going” story.
Many thanks

Thank you Des, That is why I started this website. When I take part in workshops the most important time is when we all share stories and give advice. Many people with special needs children feel that they have no one to share their stories with. My book is about to be finished, lets hope you read mine because I would love to read yours although I have been unable to access it. If you read my story you will see that I also have son who is now 27years old, so I know of the difficulties and rewards you get with dyspraxia. That is why I wrote a book, to enable me to share my experiences and show that it is possible to overcome, move on and progress or just understand dyspraxia.
Thank you ,thank you , my 5 year old is having problems at school the OT believes he has dyspraxia, we are in saudi , and i cannot find anyone here to help , so I have been trawling the internet , thank you so much for your web site with a human touch , and the exercises you suggest , keep up the good work
